12 Christmas Wreaths For Your House

Design

The wreath is one of the most popular decorations during Christmas holiday season… In the Christian tradition, they are normally hung on the front doors as a welcome sign; but they also put in different places, with different shapes, colors, designs…

It has been very significant and has been used symbolically for centuries and centuries…

“Pre-Christian, or Pagan, cultures placed much importance on the December celebration of the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year. For them, this was a time of death and rebirth, a celebration of the end of the ever shortening days and the anticipation of the coming promise of spring. As part of many celebrations, evergreen wreaths were gathered as a sign of the approaching spring light. In Sweden, wreaths were fashioned for similar purposes, with the addition of candles that symbolized the power of the sun.” – EnlightenMe

It has also a big story in ancient times. It was believed that the wreath was a big symbol of success, victory and importance; and they were used as headbands. In the ancient Greece they put wreaths of laurels in the heads of the victorious athletes in the Olympic Games. It was worn similarly by Roman leaders and were also hung on doors as a symbol of victory.

The circle shape has a meaning in a deep context of symbolizing the eternity or eternal rebirth, due to the fact of not having a begging nor an end. So, in the modern times the wreath has adapted that same exact  meaning and the vast array of materials that are used to create a modern wreath carry significance as well…

“…Holly represents immortality, for instance, whereas cedar stands for strength. But for many, the wreath’s symbolic attributes are much simpler than all this. The Christmas wreath has evolved into a sign of welcoming and an acknowledgment of holiday cheer for this season that emphasizes generosity, giving, and the gathering of loved ones”
